“We are on course to reaching global warming of 1.5 Celsius within the next two decades, and temperature will continue to rise unless the world takes much bolder action”
–– Dr. Housung Lee Chair, IPCC, 28 February 2022

On Course is a series of paintings responding to the ongoing climate crisis, using a printed copy of the 2022 IPCC Report, imagery, text, and my own related research.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) is a United Nations panel formed in 1988 to regularly assess and quantify the scientific evidence, impacts, and mitigation of climate change.  It has issued 6 reports over the last 32 years, the most recent being released in three parts in 2022. This report includes urgent calls for global emissions cuts and immediate, drastic action to prevent further acute and chronic crises. Reading it lead me to consider how our planet and people are getting clobbered by this catastrophe and how governments and corporations are intentionally steering us towards an outcome that is most devastating for the poor, and Brown and Black people of the world.

On Course originated in June 2022, in a residency at Milvus Artistic Research Center (MARC), in Knislinge, Sweden. MARC is a multi-disciplinary international residency program, focused on the development and presentation of experimental visual art and dance.
